It was at the academy awards of 2010, and I was suprizenly nominated for best director for the movie Star Space. It was my first time there at the awards, so I was trying hard to assimilate with the crowd, and hoped not to be noticed by anyone at the ceremony. As we waited for the show to start, I could see that all of the other stars were being lionized by their fans, posing for pictures and writing autographs for everybody, and as for me, an unknown movie maker, with nobody but myself, had nobody to talk to.
I am really shy, so you could tell that I didn’t want much attention, and I tried meticulously not to be noticed by anybody at the red carpet, not even the other actors. A few moments later, they began to start, and all of us began to head towards the door, all excited for this wonderful event, all except myself, who was trying to hide in between the big happy crowd.
As I entered, I was amazed. The room was enormous, the stage was all blue and shiny with glitter, all illuminated with colorful lights, the stairs all painted in white with three big huge screens telling you that this was the 82nd academy awards and that you were there to see it. The stars then began sitting down on these amazing confortable chairs waiting for the hosts to give the first Oscar and to start, the academy awards.
The time had passed by and there were lots of movies that I thought really deserved the Oscar, but some in witch me and many people would make a dissension on. After a few more winners had passed, I knew that the best director award was going to be next, and I was really nervous about it, but then I was even more nervous when Jeff bridges, who was sitting right next to me, wanted to start a little conversation.
“Hey aren’t you the director for the movie Star Space?” Jeff said
I knew from that point I had to say something so I answered “umm,y y y yes, why?”
“wow man” he said, “that movie was great, you put a lot of work into it, l think you have what it takes to win that Oscar” he said with a smile on his face, and quickly went back to watching the show.
I was a bit startled to have been given a complement by a well-known actor, but soon the commercials were over and it was time for the best Director award. The screen first began showing the mini trailers for the nominated movies. When it was almost over, I decided I couldn’t take much of the suspense and went out to go hide in the bathroom until it was over. Halfway to the exit door, I heard a name, I stopped and slightly turned around to see who the lucky winner was, but then I saw something I was never expected to see in my entire life, it was In big letters, showing it to all of the most famous stars, my name, on all of the three big screens on stage.
The light shined on me and I ran to the stage, leaving all my worries and frights behind. Up on stage, with my hands grasping on the Oscar, I looked at the crowd and thank everyone I knew and everyone from the movie, with no worries, and no feeling of being nervous. From that moment, I Knew I would never be shy again. And now I know that dream comes true. I’m the winner!
